It is with great sadness that we have to report the recent passing of two people who have had long associations with Truro Rugby Club.
George Champion was a true Truronian, man and boy, who had been a long time supporter of Truro RFC over many years.
George loved his sport, especially rugby, and closely followed the achievements of his son (Grant) and grandson (Jake), both having represented Truro over the years.
In more recent times George had suffered from heart issues and, unfortunately, also contracted Covid-19 whilst he was in hospital. He had managed to fight through, but passed away in Hayle hospital on the morning of Tuesday 16th February 2021, aged 85.
George's funeral is at 2pm on Monday 1st March at Penmount Crematorium, family flowers only, donations if desired to WaterAid UK.
Colin ("Fred") Martin was an ex-player who represented Truro RFC across the whole spectrum of the club's teams over many years, before then also becoming a staunch supporter of the club.
"Harpo" was forever smiling and always up for a friendly chat with whomever he would cross paths with, and was also perfectly prepared to give you a good discount off your carpets or furniture when buying from the various outlets he worked for.
Fred was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2020 and, despite having had operations, passed away at home on the morning of Wednesday 24th February 2021, aged 62.
Details of his funeral will be made available when we know them.
The thoughts of Truro RFC are with those left behind by both George and Fred, their friends, friend, families and loved ones, and when you next raise a glass, please also raise a toast... to George and Fred..!!
